Brasilian jolly Edmilson has been forced to leave the selecao and abandon world cup dreams after an knee injury. Edmilson had recently made the headlines due to an exchange of hard tackles with Adriano during the selecao's training.
Mineiro, a 30 year old central defender currently plays his football with Sao Paolo after spells with Rio Branco, Guarani, Ponte Preta and Sao Caetano. His name is familiar to European and Liverpool fans for the victory goal for Sao Paolo against Liverpool in the World Club Championship. His full name is Carlos Luciano da Silva "Mineiro", born on the 2nd August 1975 and he is 1m 69 cem tall. He has made two previous appearances for the selecao: once in 2001 (vs Peru) and once in 2005 (vs Guatemala).

The FIFA anti-doping commission has paid a surprise visit to the Brasilian training camp at Weggis, Switzerland. 4 Brasilian players had their urine samples taken: keeper Rogerio Ceni, defender Luisao and midfielders Gilberto Silva and Juninho.
