Il-Mitjar (The Airport)

Time: 0125 am
Place: MIA(Luqa)
Company: Xifer and Mr. Maqluba

While waiting for the dwarf to land on his return from Hibernia we have decided to blog contemporaneously. I am not sure if this is a world first. Will we go down in the annals of history ... When a wishy-washy communist, a multilingual sonnet creator and an arrogant bastard sat down to blog in the middle of MIA?

What to blog about is the question of course... the agreed subject was the airport... or mitjar as the maltesers wanted. That very same airport that was one of the subjects of an arse-licking exercise by Frank Salt on today's Times. He was brought up knowing how to say thank you. In a sordid reminder of the Alanis Morrissette song he embarked upon a thank you government litany which bordered on the sorry and pitiful (like Mark Vella's singing). It was not half as good as any of Antoine Cassar's sonnets. Thank You India, Thank You Gonzi, Thank You Austin, Thank You Thank You....

Why Mr Salt? Why? What is there to thank about so profusely? Am I ungrateful when I reflect that today's politicians no longer represent any shadow of hope for the future we will live in tomorrow? Am I being ungrateful when I worry that today's younger generation are being lost in extremes and throwing away their potential? Am I being ungrateful when I vow to stop voting for any of the parties unless I am genuinely convinced?

The Airport. Malta's gateway to the rest of the world. In no other European Country can the airport bear so much significance than in Malta. It is the lifeline to the outside world. It is the ram that breaks the barriers of insularity. We sit here typing on the rim. This is the twilight zone that wakes us up to the reality that we are not the belly button of the world.

This is where we type this blog...this first recorded contemporaneous blog for the Maltese Islands.

So much for firsts... have a nice flight....

Is it something generational, this perpetual whine about politicians not recognising the value of the youth of today? What value does the youth of today have, other than to act contemporaneously as cannon fodder and conscience?

Do stop. Or put your money where your mouth is and get involved - not that I would, but my venerable age allows me to lay down the law.

I was going to blog about the 'Thank You' article by FS but I decided to change subject (it was too depressing). I was going to make another list of sarcastic thank-you's, such are for destroying every hint of greenery in the island and for always being there when estate developers need you. But, anyway, you have to take the author of such articles with a pinch of Salt (excuse the pun).

question 1: Am I ungrateful when I reflect that today's politicians no longer represent any shadow of hope for the future we will live in tomorrow?

question 2: Am I being ungrateful when I worry that today's younger generation are being lost in extremes and throwing away their potential?

This is not about politicians vs, youth. I am not claiming that today's youth have any answers. The first question alludes to the political class we have today (young and old) which holds no hope for the future.

The second alludes to the wasted young who instead of coming up with different ideas tag along to the extremists who manipulate the aforesaid vacuum that exists.

I had tried putting my money where my mouth is... result... sidelining. Now I hope this blog is another way of doing so....

Post at 7.03 AM????? Easy now.

A definite first for Malta, but I've seen "contemporaneous blogging" in foreign blogs.
